Week on wheels

Every week our LFNS friends, the lovely people who bring us the ‘Sunday Stroll’ and the ‘Friday Night Skate’ produce a weekly newsletter to keep our fingers on the pulse of the skating world. You can visit them by clicking on the LFNS logo below to check out this weeks route and see the photos of last weeks adventures.
==THIS WEEK==
On FRIDAY, it’s time again to put on your red shirts ready for this
week’s LFNS, which sees Lead Marshal Roger taking us to the fabulous
Emirates Stadium, home of the Arsenal. We always have fun skating
around the stadium at half time, and if you need to get home early,
perhaps to clean your balls ready for the big game on Sunday, well,
the nearest tube is Arsenal, just up the road.
The 13 mile route has some gentle hills, so as always on a street
skate, you must be able to stop and turn yourself safely. We aim to
leave promptly at 8pm, so check the route map to find a meeting point
if you think you might be late.

On SUNDAY Dan will be making yet another attempt to find Walham. It’s
near Parsons Green but don’t tell him. Meet on Serpentine Road at 2.00.

==LAST WEEK==
Bren well and truly destroyed his reputation for laid-back skates by
whisking us out to Turnham Green and back by 9.45. The route was
basically straight there and straight back again, and it took full
advantage of some tarmac so fresh that you could see the track marks
where some over-enthusiastic marshals skated over it while it was
being laid on Tuesday. After a disappointing number of skates have
been cancelled due to the inclement weather conditions, it was good to
know that we could all still remember how to blast away the worries of
the week with a good old-fashioned full-on LONDON FRIDAY NIGHT SKATE.
Photos of the fun are available on our web site.

SUNDAY saw a return to the ghastly weather that we have got so used
to, so no strolling was done last week.
==TIME CHECK==
Well, we did warn you. Sort of.
Following the LondonSkate’s new improved ‘leaving on time’ approach to
leaving on time, Bren started this week’s skate at approximately 8.02.
Quite a few people ended up joining us en route. Still, the exercise
would have done them good.
The London Friday Night Skate aims to start at 8.00. There is a real
chance it may actually have gone if you arrive after this time. If you
might be late, why not check out the route map (each week on
www.lfns.co.uk) and see if there’s a convenient point to join us? Most
routes are far from straight so you could cut off a loop or two and
catch up without too much trouble. Or you could just turn up at 7.45
and chat till we leave.
==A SPOKE IN THE WHEEL==
Apologies for the absence of our music bike, Firebrox, which was again
a no show on Friday. When the crew went to get it out, they found a
few broken spokes. The Firebrox carries a lot of weight (it takes
power to make that much noise and that means heavy batteries) so we
were reluctant to take it on the road with some missing spokes and
watch the others give in one by one.
Firebrox is a lovingly hand crafted music machine but it is big for a
bike (about the size of a Smart Car) and very heavy. We also throw it
about a bit, keeping up with the skaters. The design puts a lot of
strain on components that weren’t necessarily made with a mobile sound
system in mind. That’s why it sometimes fails to show on skates
because of ‘technical problems’.
Firebrox also needs somewhere to live that is reasonably close to the
park. Existing garage arrangements will run out in a few weeks. If you
have somewhere you can park a music bike (secure and undercover with
24 hour access) please let us know.

==DOWN THE RABBIT HOLE==
And so as we follow the White Rabbit to Skating Wonderland (’Oh my
nose and whiskers! I’ll be late!’) we leave you for another week of
sunshine and showers, skating heaven and London Transport hell.
