What is The Friday Night Skate?

The London Friday Night Skate is a FREE ten to fifteen mile street skate around London, every Friday (hence the name).
There is a different route every week - one week might take in famous central London roads and sights, another week will head for some long fast downhills in Camden or Putney, or even a trip to the countryside out at Barnes.
The traffic is made aware of the skate as it passes by our expertly co-ordinated volunteer marshals (on skates), and we even have a portable sound system on a bicycle.

The LFNS operates year-round, subject to weather. Each week at 5pm on Friday the skate is confirmed on the site. The skate leaves from Wellington Arch at 8pm: aim to get there a few minutes early to make sure you don’t miss the announcements and don’t get left behind.
The skate lasts about two hours and is split into a medium-paced “red” section followed by a ten minute halftime break, then a faster “black” section.
Usually the skate loops back around to the start point, except for special events and skates where the finish ends up somewhere else and you’ll need to find your own way home.

Q. Am I good enough?
The Friday skate is generally fast and you need to be able to keep up, know how stop well, perhaps downhill and be able to turn at fast speeds around tight corners. If you are in any doubt, book a skating lesson to assess your ability and get you up to speed.
