I started to skate after I bought an ex-girlfriend a pair of boots for her Birthday in Summer 2003. I thought that I would hire a set and impress her with my speed and dare-devil moves. However she soon got bored of scraping me off the tarmac and sped off into the sunset leaving me with bruised knees and a broken heart. However I was bitten by the skating bug and vowed to get better in order to impress! So I persuaded my mate Phil to join me and motivated by the promise of hot skater chicks throwing themselves at us when we got good, we began to practice. The long hours of training began to pay off, we approached better skaters than ourselves to help us and realized that the proper technique was key. We practiced all winter through blizzard and hail and a hobby became obsession. We bored our work-mates with tales of improving grapevines or power-slides. In spring we had got so good that we were ushered onto the IISA ICP level one instructors course in April 2004 and were proud to pass. There is still so much to learn but the obsession remains. Today you will find me surrounded by a bevy of beautiful girls, thanks to skating!!
